A 46-year old New Town man is under arrest on several charges after leading authorities on a high speed chase that reached speeds over 120 miles per hour last Friday.
The incident started at 5 on Friday when James William Posey refused to stop for Three Affiliated Tribes police. The chase lasted for more than 40 miles before Posey was stopped on Highway 23.
After being arrested, Posey is accused of assaulting two correctional officers while trying to escape the Ward County Jail.
Posey made his initial court appearance yesterday on charges of fleeing from a police officer, two counts of simple assault on a peace officer and escape. His bond was set at 10,000 dollars. If convicted on all charges, Posey could spend a maximum 6 years in prison and 13,000 dollars in fines.
A preliminary hearing for Posey has been set for June 8th.
