The Souris River Joint Board has approved a contract to begin the design of the Velva, Sawyer and Mouse River Park bridge replacements as part of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection project.
Initial plans include the replacement of the Highway 41 bridge in Velva and the Highway 23 bridge in Sawyer. The new bridges will be raised and lengthend to increase conveyance through these areas. The 95th Street bridge at Mouse River Park will also be replaced and additional measures will be included to alleviate flooding across the roadway.
Field investigations kick off these project as crews will be in the area over the next few weeks conducting preliminary surveys and geotechnical testing. Design of these three phases is expected to be completed in 2019.
