Evoni Williams was waiting tables at a Waffle House in La Marque, Texas when she was captured on camera doing something kind for a customer. The 18-year-old server was filmed cutting up food for an elderly customer who had recently had surgery and was having trouble cutting his food.
The man told Williams his hands weren’t working too good, so she didn’t hesitate, she just reached over and started cutting his ham up for him. The kind act was captured on camera and once people saw it, Williams was praised for her compassion.
The town’s mayor presented her with a proclamation at work and Texas Southern University took notice of this young woman, too. The college gave her a scholarship for $16,000, $4,000 each for four semesters. And that’s a pretty good reward for doing what she felt was the right thing to do. "It just came from the heart," Williams says.
