KCJB was heard over 4,000 miles away in Sweden!

Last week I received an email from a person in Sweden with an attached audio file. Here is what the email said:

Hello!
It is with great pleasure that I report reception of your station KCJB Minot on 910 kHz.
I attach a sound file with a recording of your station. The file is in MP3 format. The recording was made at 12.04 am your local time (6.04 am UTC) on the 30 of november 2018. I hope that the recording is of such quality that you can verify that I heard your station. Your station call comes after 10-11 seconds, your station was quite weak. If you do so I would be very happy if you would confirm this with a QSL card or by simply replying to this email. Such a verification would also be a nice remembrance of this contact with your station.
Reception was achieved by a Perseus receiver and an outdoor antenna, type “Beverage”, 850 meters long.
Finally a few words about me. I´m 57 years old, married and I have 2 children. I live in the middle part of Sweden, in a little village called Kanngardarna, Djura. My hobbies, besides DX-ing, is sports (soccer and badmintone most). I started my DX career in 1975 and after a couple of years stations from Central and North America became my favourite area.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Best wishes,
Stefan Gustavsson

As you can hear in the audio below, the quality isn't the best, but you can still hear a little of the "KCJB, your news and information station" in the clip.

If you are wondering what a DXing is, the Internet is your friend. Wikipedia states that "DXing is the hobby of receiving and identifying distant radio or television signals, or making two-way radio contact with distant stations in amateur radio, citizens' band radio or other two-way radio communications." (Source: Wikipedia)

Now, if you are wondering how far Minot, ND to Kanngardarna, Sweden is...well according to Google Maps, it is 4,120 miles!

It's always interesting to learn about different hobbies for people!

Don't forget, you can still listen to KCJB on your radio and worldwide on your smart phone or computer! 😉
