The Bottom Line: March 22nd is World Water Day!
The Full Story:
March 22nd is World Water Day! Water means jobs. Water is the essential building block of life. But it’s more than just essential to quench thirst or protect health. That’s one of the reasons that the United Nations General Assembly declared March 22nd as "World Day for Water.” This day was first formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Today, half of the world's workers – about 1.5-billion people - work in water-related career. Still, millions of people whose livelihoods depend on water are often not recognized or protected. This day focuses attention on the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Every year, there’s a different theme and this year, the focus is on the central role that water plays in creating and supporting good quality jobs.
