The Bottom Line: September 11th is Grandparents Day!
The Full Story:
September 11th is Grandparents Day! Back in 1973 Marian McQuade established Grandparents Day. And she had plenty of inspiration – as McQuade had raised fifteen children and had forty-three grandchildren. So yes, the purpose of this day is to honor grandparents and strengthen the bond between grandparents and grandchildren. But that’s not all – children also need to be educated about about the valuable contributions seniors have made throughout history.
Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. It's a great opportunity to talk to your grandparents about your family tree or look through old photo albums together. If your grandparents are no longer with us, volunteer to work with the elderly in your area.
