Single mom Sophia Reed recently spent her savings to move her four kids into a new apartment in Oklahoma City and was looking forward to a quiet meal with her family for Christmas since she had nothing left for gifts this year. But she was worried about her 13-year-old son, Darius, who kept disappearing for hours at a time.
Since his mom didn’t want him out getting into trouble in their new neighborhood, she called the cops to help find out what he was up to. Officers found the teen out collecting cans to raise money to buy his mother a Christmas gift, explaining, “I just wanted to do something for my mama.”
When the officers learned what Darius was up to, he had collected $13 for his cause. They kept his secret and raised $800 on their own to buy Christmas gifts for the family, getting toys, clothes, and presents for all of the kids and mama, too.
