The Bottom Line: Delicious facts about croissants to melt your palate

The Full Story:

  • There are several types of croissants. Three of the most well known are butter croissants, chocolate croissants, and almond croissants.
  • Butter croissants are made with a traditional croissant recipe but with extra butter. A typical croissant contains 200 to 250 calories, while a butter croissant can contain about 406 calories.
  • Chocolate Croissants are baked with a piece of dark chocolate in the center of the dough which melts during the baking process. In France, they’re typically called “pain au chocolate,” and can contain approximately 425 calories (and who cares, because they WILL change your life).
  • Almond croissants are filled with frangipane (custard made from almonds) and topped with slices of almonds. This croissant can reach up to 400 calories.
