When more than 250 doctors in Quebec, Canada were offered a pay raise, they declined the increase and asked that it be given to overworked nurses and clerks instead. A representational group of physicians wrote a letter explaining that their fellow health care workers deserve better wages and working conditions.
The letter says that the “nurses, clerks, and other professionals face very difficult working conditions, while our patients live with the lack of access to required services because of the drastic cuts in recent years and the centralization of power in the Ministry of Health.”
Quebec’s Health Minister says he has no problem with the docs leaving the money on the table, “If they feel they are overpaid.” No word on whether the money will be reallocated as requested, but at least the doctors’ hearts are in the right place.
