Organization provides companion dogs to vets

Thanks to an organization called Dog Tags and Tails, veterans and rescue dogs are being brought together to help each other out. The program provides companions to vets in the Baltimore area, some of them, like Ambrose Cobain, suffer from PTSD, and the dogs help.

He’s a 23-year Army vet who’s 14-year-old dog Lucy recently died and now has a new four-legged buddy in Bailey. "I have problems with nightmares and other things other issues with PTSD, and the dogs are smart enough they can trigger on those things,” Cobain explains. “They can see if I'm suffering and she kind of keeps me distracted from going to bad places.”

The program gets training for the dogs and the veterans from a former Marine and police K-9 officer to ensure the best outcome for everyone. The dogs are free to vets and they really make a big difference in their lives.
