Military personnel serving aboard the USS New York are about to get a treat. To thank the service members for their service, Girl Scout Troop 91 of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina had a goal of sending 600 boxes of cookies to the ship. But they’ve blown past that goal by selling 1,013 boxes of cookies to be donated.
Troop co-leader Jamie Bandari says each box will come with a personalized card saying thanks. The Girl Scouts partnered with VFW Post 10814 to get their mission accomplished and later got card donations from Shutterfly and an offer from the Navy League of New York to cover shipping costs.
“A box of cookies and a card may not seem like much, but when the community rallies together for them and to help a small Girl Scout Troop from South Carolina, hopefully it will bring a smile to their face and a warmth in their hearts,” a statement from the Troop reads. “This project has brought the best out of everyone and there are not enough words to show our gratitude."
