June 6th is National Yo-Yo Day! Today is the day to dig through your old toy collection and see if you still have any yo-yo skills left in you! The yo-yo is considered the second oldest toy of all time. They used to be made of wood, metal and terracotta, and the Ancient Greeks decorated them with images of the Gods. Kids used to put their yo-yos on their family alter to honor to their families as they progressed into adulthood.
The yo-yo was also used as a weapon in the Philippines during 16th century.
But the toy has come a long way since then. The term yo-yo was coined by Pedro Flores, who was making gadgets in his California factory when he came up with a name for the toy.
Now, no matter how old you are, you can still play with a yo-yo. Even former presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon were known to dabble in the arts of yo-yo while at the White House.
