August 7th is National Lighthouse Day! On August 7th, 1789, through an Act of Congress, the Federal Government took over responsibility for building and operating our nation's lighthouses, and since then, it has been national lighthouse day.

Did you know the Statue of Liberty is a lighthouse? In fact, it was the first lighthouse to ever use electricity. One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World was a lighthouse—the famous Pharos of Alexandria, Egypt. It is the first one that is recorded in history and was built around 280 BC.

Today we call people who study (or are interested in) lighthouses, pharologists after the famous one of the ancient world. Now you know
