Names Released In Minot Homicide Case - Incident Occurred 8/15/2021

Update 8-16-2021:

The family of both parties have been notified and we are releasing the names of the two decedents from yesterday’s incident. Carrie Welnel, 50 years old is the victim of homicide. Caleb Heyward-Treib 23, is the suspect in this incident, and was found in the back yard of a residence a short distance from the crime scene. He was deceased. There were no obvious signs of trauma on the suspect, and his cause of death is undetermined. An autopsy will be completed soon.

The Minot Police Department is investigating a homicide in SW Minot. Police were called to a southwest Minot address at 7:01 a.m. on a report of a shooting. A 50 year old female was located and determined to be deceased. Responding officers quickly identified a suspect and began an extensive search. The suspect was located a short distance away and was deceased.

Victim and suspect names are being withheld pending family notifications. Investigators and the crime scene team are actively processing this scene. More information will be provided when it becomes available.
