Hit and run Monday evening leads to arrests in southwest Minot

The Minot Police Department responded to a southwest Minot business parking lot for an ambulance request on Monday, July 8, at approximately 4:54 p.m. Once officers were on scene, eyewitnesses informed them that a woman, Jane Doe, was struck by a vehicle. As officers headed towards the accident, they observed two vehicles leaving at a high rate of speed. The investigation determined that an argument over money started the incident. It was determined that two vehicles, one driven by Ion Renardo-Remus Paliu, a 19- year-old male, Minot, and one driven by Ion Bascracea, a 48-year-old male, Minot, were using their respective vehicles to strike each other’s vehicle in the parking lot. At one point, Bascracea accelerated in the direction of Jane Doe and Paliu’s vehicle multiple times. Bascracea struck Paliu’s vehicle numerous times and struck Jane Doe with the front of his vehicle. Jane Doe was transported to Trinity Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident. Ion Renardo-Remus Paliu is charged with Reckless Endangerment (Class C Felony), and Reckless Driving (Class B Misdemeanor). Ion Bascracea is charged with Reckless Endangerment (Class C Felony), Aggravated Reckless Driving (Class A Misdemeanor), and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Personal Injury (Class A Misdemeanor). Paliu and Bascracea were transported to the Ward County Jail. All parties involved know each other. Investigation is ongoing into what started the incident.
