A quick trip to the grocery store or a glance at your credit card bill is a solid reminder that prices for everyday expenses are higher than we’d like right now, and it turns out, those costs may be keeping a lot of folks from their annual summer trip. According to a new Bankrate survey, only 46% of U.S. adults are planning to travel this summer, and the biggest thing keeping them from it? Finances.
Bankrate’s 2025 Summer Travel Survey finds that 65% of people who aren’t going on a summer getaway this year say they just can’t afford it.
Beyond budget restrictions, 23% say they’re skipping summer travel because they just aren’t interested in going right now, 16% can’t take time off work and 15% are worried about air travel safety.
