For immediate release June 1, 2017 Section of Burdick Expressway East closing June 5 for construction A section of Burdick Expressway East will close to vehicle traffic on Monday, June 5, at 8:30 a.m. as construction continues on one of Minot’s major east-west routes.Beginning Monday, Burdick Expressway will close to vehicle traffic between the west side of the viaduct and 15th Street SE, near the bridge over the Mouse River. Vehicle traffic will be re-routed onto Valley Street, and detour signs will guide drivers around the construction zone. Burdick Expressway is a key east-west traffic route for Minot, and updating the infrastructure on this section will provide a more efficient and safer roadway well into the future,” said City Engineer Lance Meyer. “We’re working with the contractors to minimize the impact on drivers, residents and businesses in the area, and to complete this important project on time. For now, the intersection of Burdick Expressway East and 13th Street SE will remain open for vehicles to enter the Roosevelt Park Zoo, and a pedestrian crosswalk will be provided near the intersection. A temporary vehicle exit from the Zoo parking lot has been provided across Bur-dick Expressway at 11th Street SE. When the 13th Street SE and Burdick Expressway intersection closes for construction, access for vehicles entering and exiting the Zoo will continue at 11th Street SE.Temporary traffic signals have been installed at the intersection of Valley Street and 13th Street SE and at the intersection of Valley Street and 27th Street SE to help manage the increased vol-ume of traffic. The project will replace underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer pipes, while widen-ing the driving lanes. New lighting, sidewalks, traffic signals and signage will also be installed. A portion of the curve just east of 9th St. SE will be straightened for safety reasons. The intersection of Burdick Expressway and 9th Street SE has a completion date of July 18 to ac-commodate the North Dakota State Fair Parade. Once over the viaduct, the parade will be routed onto 9th Street SE, then onto Eastern Avenue and 8th Avenue SE before entering the North Da-kota State Fairgrounds. The entire Burdick Expressway project has a completion date of Oct. 28.
