City of Minot Public Works Director Dan Jonasson is encouraging Minot residents to voluntarily limit usage of water, effective immediately.Jonasson said the voluntary restriction is for any outdoor water usage, including sprinkler sys-tems, lawn watering, and car washing. Residents are encouraged to abide by current City ordi-nance and water their lawns on a limited basis. Residents living in even-numbered homes should water only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while residents of odd-numbered homes should water only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Any resident can water their lawn on Sundays.Jonasson said that because of the recent hot weather, water usage in the city has spiked to 13 mil-lion gallons per day, which is the current daily capacity of the Minot Water Treatment Plant. That leaves no room to spare if a water break happens, or if there are mechanical problems at the treatment plant.“We really appreciate the public voluntarily restricting their water usage, and voluntarily abiding by the lawn water restrictions that are in City ordinance,” said Jonasson. “By doing this, we hope we can maintain an adequate supply of water and will not have to mandate stricter water use re-strictions.”
