Minot's new garbage can's will be delivered soon!

 The City of Minot preparing for new automated garbage collection system.  Delivery of new household waste carts to Minot residents will begin this week and continue over the next 7-10 days in preparation for the start of the City of Minot’s new automated garbage collection system, but officials are reminding residents not to begin using the carts just yet.“  The new carts are specifically designed to work in conjunction with the new trucks, so we’re asking residents to wait for the new trucks to use the new carts,” said John Reynolds, Sanitation Superintendent for the City of Minot.  The City will begin using the new automated trucks for garbage collection on July 17. Residents should begin using their new cart that day or on their first regular collection day after July 17.  Crews will begin delivering the approximately 12,500 waste carts on Saturday, July 8; delivery to residents using City of Minot sanitation services is expected to take about 7-10 days. The carts will be assembled beginning this weekend outside the Minot Municipal Auditorium.Reynolds also reminded residents that they should not write their home address or any other identifying information on the new carts. The new receptacles have three forms of identification built into them: a serial number, a bar code, and a radio frequency chip embedded inside the handle. The new containers will be matched to a specific address.  “If for some reason your cart is at an incorrect address, the technology on the new trucks will tell us that, and the driver can bring your cart back to the proper address,” Reynolds said. “Our system will know where each cart belongs, so there’s no need to write anything on the new carts.”  Residents with old garbage cans they would like to get rid of can drop off the cans at the over-flow parking lot located west of the Minot Municipal Auditorium’s main parking lot on the south side of the Auditorium.  The City will provide a roll-off dumpster at that location starting July 19.“We’re trying to make the transition as easy as possible for everyone,” Reynolds said. “If residents are looking for an easy way to get rid of unwanted trash cans, we’re happy to help.”For additional information or interviews contact the Public Information Office at 701-857-4727 or by email at pio@minotnd.org.###
