On January 3, 2018 at 7:00 PM officers responded to Hobby Lobby for a report of a male shoplifter. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the store employees who reported that a male had attempted to flee the store with a cart. The cart had been filled with approximately $4000 worth of merchandise over a period of approximately seven hours. While attempting to flee with the shopping cart, it became stuck in the snow in the parking lot causing it to overturn and the male tripped and fell. The male abandonded the cart and merchandise and fled the parking lot on foot. It was discovered through the investigation that several personal items were in the area of the cart full of merchandise. It appears the items were dropped by the suspect when he fell. One of the items was a wallet containing identification and the description matched that of the suspect. Police responded to the residence of the owner of the property and the identification and the investigation led to the arrest of 22 year old Dustin Johnson for Theft of Property - Shoplifting (Class C Felony) and he was taken to Ward COunty Jail where he is awaiting his initial appearance.
