The Minot International Airport, in conjunction with the Minot Police Department, has scheduled active shooter training and an active shooter live drill at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17.
Deanna Stoddard, Airport Operations Manager, said the training will be conducted immediately after the final morning flight departs from the facility at 8 a.m. The training includes a video and instruction from the Minot Police Department, followed by a short live shooter drill and a de-briefing.
Stoddard said the public is being asked to stay away from the airport terminal during the training, which should last from 8 a.m. to approximately 9:30 a.m.
“This is not a police training drill, but this is an important opportunity for everyone employed in the Minot International Airport to learn how to properly react in case an active shooter is in our facility,” Stoddard said.
Uniformed police officers will be on site for safety; state and local law enforcement agencies will be involved in all aspects of the training.
“We want to let the public know that this drill is taking place on Monday so they aren’t concerned if they see police vehicles and some commotion at the terminal,” Stoddard said. “We appreciate the public’s cooperation in remaining away from the facility until the training is over.”
